Mannerisms: The summer print crosses over for holiday MANILA BULLETIN Wednesday, November 21, 2007 Rey R. Ilagan
Normally reserved for the high suns of the summer season, floral prints are ubiquitously appearing for fall fashion.
From Etro to Dries Van Noten, a fresh, color-wheel play on the print created a new feel for holiday. And with designers’ new fondness for Crayola colors for the winter collections, the floral print gets a jolt of blush.
The surprising highlight was the calibrated manner the print was deployed, skimmed onto topcoats and jackets, instead of splashed onto everything.
If such fashions can go with your personality, be sure not to overpower the floral jacket by adding much distraction from other pieces of clothing you’ll be wearing. Maintain the topcoat or jacket as your outfit’s focal style point and keep the rest in darker and print-less variations.
Sophisticated designer floral prints are a classy alternative to the current fancy for graphic-printed jackets—from ink-scribbled gothic skulls to colored linear patterns. While the rest get their graphic-print fix, you can be more elegant and forward in your autumn florals.
