Peasants No More…

Jeff Rogador’s inspiration for his 2010 F/W Collection (for the upcoming Philippine Fashion Week F/W 2010) is a painting done by the famous French impressionist Paul Cezanne entitled Peasant. The art piece is a portrait of a male peasant wearing a crisp white polo with a button-down jacket; you can see a dab of calming gray and green colors.

Ironic as it may seem, the young designer’s master plan is to create a magnificent collection of Fall  pieces from paintings of not-so glamorous peasant-themed materials. “What caught my eyes in most of the paintings is that even if they are captured in their most casual setting, you can see the details and the style of the old peasant clothing, humble yet dignified”, Jeff shares. Peasant clothing is identified as very basic, practical and made of durable materials and fabrics and that is exactly what Jeff interpreted into his designs but with much, much more.

Instead of the old capes and cloaks, you will notice a lot of fabric construction and detailing for his Women’s Collection. Shoulder drapes, tucks, fabric folding (origami style) and a lot of emphasis on the waist, not by using belts but by silhouettes. Adding sophistication and sassiness are the head pieces serving both practical use for the cold months and the beauty for the eyes of Manila’s fashionistas.

Inspired by the “Peasant”, Jeff’s Men’s Collection says more than its origin, clean cuts, layering, blockings and the updated look of the basic white polo. Jackets, blazers, vests, men’s drapes and the unique head gears will cover the runway spelling rough and tough for the peasants no more.

“My colors are as calming as the colors in the paintings, reliable colors that are good background if you want to create a master piece, mostly in grays and splashes of mint green”, Jeff added.

As always, fashion reflects time and its society and as one creative designer who is foreseen to be the name to watch out for this coming Philippine Fashion Week F/W 2010 emphasized, “It is how we see fashion in our lives that gives fashion its limits, my latest collections are practical, relevant and well-designed, creating something beautiful out of the common,” says the designer.
